When a problem arises, what’s the first thing we tend to do?
Rush for a quick fix. Imagine feeling sick; what do you do? You head to the pharmacy, hoping for something that will help. But the reality? The pharmacist treats the symptoms, not the cause. You might feel better for a while, but you still don’t know what’s really wrong.
Security works the same way. Too often, people jump straight to a security company, thinking a shiny alarm or a new camera will solve the problem. But here’s the catch: security companies are like pharmacists. They know their products, but they’re not diagnosing the real issue. They’re selling what they’ve got on the shelf.
What if I told you there’s a better way? Enter the Security GP – your personal risk assessor. Instead of throwing random solutions at the problem, I take the time to dig deep into your specific risks. From the overlooked details, like poor lighting, to major vulnerabilities, we tackle it all. Think of it as a full-body checkup for your security, so you don’t just treat the symptoms; you prevent future problems.
We recently conducted an independent security risk assessment for a hospital in Pietermaritzburg, uncovering risks that conventional assessments often miss. This approach enabled us to recommend practical measures to enhance the safety of patients, staff, and facilities.

Your Security GP: The Right Way to Protect What Matters (Independent Security Risk Assessment)
Let’s talk about something we all tend to do when a problem pops up: we rush for the quickest solution. Imagine you’re feeling sick. What’s the easiest thing to do? You go to the pharmacy, hoping they can give you something to feel better. But here’s the thing: the pharmacist, as knowledgeable as they are, can’t figure out what’s really wrong with you. All they can do is treat the symptoms. Maybe it helps for a little while, but you still don’t know what caused the issue in the first place.
The smarter move would’ve been to see a doctor. The doctor digs deeper, finds out what’s going on, and gives you the right treatment. If they are unable to resolve the issue, they will refer you to a specialist for further investigation. Now, think about security the same way. Whether it’s your home or business, jumping straight to a security company for help is like skipping the doctor and going straight to the pharmacy.
Too many people think the first step to better security is calling a security company.
I get it; it seems logical. You’re worried about safety, and they sell alarms, cameras, and other equipment that promise to protect you. But here’s the problem: the salesperson is like the pharmacist. They know their products inside and out, but they’re not there to figure out what’s really wrong. They’re there to sell you what they have in stock.
If they don’t have the right tool to fix your problem? Well, that problem might just get ignored. Maybe you end up with cameras in all the wrong places or a fence that doesn’t actually secure your property. The vulnerabilities stay hidden, and you’re left with a quick fix that doesn’t really solve anything.
This is where I come in—your Security GP.
My role as an Independent Security Risk Assessor is like being your security doctor. I don’t sell products. I’m not here to make a commission. My job is to give you a clear, honest look at your property’s risks and vulnerabilities.
I start with a thorough inspection of your property. And when I say thorough, I mean it. I don’t just look at hardware like cameras or locks. I look at how your property is managed, how people move in and out, and even details like overgrown bushes or poor lighting that criminals could use to their advantage. Every property is different, and that means every solution has to be tailored. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach when it comes to security.
Once I’ve gathered all the details, I put together a security plan—your prescription.
(Independent Security Risk Assessment.)
This plan is personalized for you and your property. It’s not just about fixing what’s wrong today; it’s about giving you the tools and knowledge to make better security decisions in the future.
Sometimes, this even means bringing in specialists for specific problems. For example, if cyber risks are part of your concerns, I’ll collaborate with an expert in that area. The goal is to thoroughly investigate every possible aspect or potential risk, ensuring that no detail or risk is overlooked in the process.
The harsh reality is that security is not a problem that can be solved with quick fixes. The risks don’t go away just because you put up a few cameras or a shiny new fence. Without a proper assessment, you might not even know where your real vulnerabilities are.
By working with a security GP (Risk Assessor), you’re not just solving problems; you’re staying ahead of them. You’ll have a clear understanding of your risks, a practical plan to address them, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’ve done it right.
The Bottom Line: Don’t rush to the “pharmacy” when it comes to security. Start with the “doctor.”
An Independent Security Risk Assessor like me is here to help you understand what’s really going on and prescribe a plan that actually works. Together, we can protect what matters most.
